Over the past few weeks, I have heard time and time again, that people have simply wanted to stay home, lay on their couch, and watch Netflix. The fact of the matter is that you are completely entitled time of rest. The winter season, or the end of the year for that matter, is noted as a time of reflection and a time of wrap up. Just like the seasons need an important time of expansion and contraction, so do you. And I think the question you have to remember is… Why would you think that you don’t?
Getting out of a funk like this a funk in which you don’t want to work on your business, don’t want to do household duties, don’t want to spend time with your friends and family, etc, can show up a few times a year. It’s normal. You’re a super busy person.
It’s important though that you remember that there is nothing wrong with you. Even If you experience the creative emotional rollercoaster of up and down emotions continuously and this season has you rocked, you’re going to be okay. So the question is… What do you start doing, or what do you start thinking, to get you out of this weird funk?
For me, I personally always find these times really strange because I am not the type of person that is continuously doing five things at once. I usually don’t allow myself to just do nothing, or JUST watch TV. But I have to say, I’ve seen a pattern over the last few years. This time (into the new year) I tend to allow myself the opportunity to simply become a couch potato.
MAKE NOTE: But although I’m in my couch potato state, I always want to make note of what my goals and accomplishments need to be within the next small amount of time. And yes you can write this list from your couch. In making this list you are at least propelling yourself into a slow-moving momentum of getting what you need to get done, complete! This has your mind (even subconsciously) thinking about the things that you need to get done.
TAKE SMALL STEPS: The next step is simply making sure you complete something each day that has to do with positively moving you forward and creating some kind of momentum. It can be small and it can be from your couch. The answer is yes, you can still keep on track and give yourself this time of stillness reflection and simply just BEING.
But as time goes by and you’ve watched every Netflix show imaginable, even you start to think to yourself that it’s time to get off the couch.
CHANGE THE VIBE UP: When you get to this point it’s important for you to remember that physical activity of some kind always shifts the vibe. Force yourself to get up and dance, go outside for a walk, clean something, take your camera and take photographs outside, shift the vibration physically. Shifting this vibe will not only change the pattern that you’ve been living and feeling, but it is a very nice icebreaker to the next creation that you’re going to be working on.
MAKE SPACE FOR NEW: That’s right, turn off your TV. Make room for growth. Physically making space (AKA – cleaning your house, getting rid of some junk, etc) can be one of the most liberating and energy clearing activities you can do. As you clear away you make room for new experiences, new possibilities, new items, new you.
ASK FOR INSPIRATION: If you don’t like the vibration of something, whether it be… you, a space, an idea, or what have you, you have to consciously shift it in some way. This can be done physically, consciously, by asking for inspiration to come to you, by asking for creativity come to come to you, you name it.
OPEN YOUR EYES: If you’re feeling as though at this point you are doomed because inspiration is nowhere to be found, just stop for a moment and become present. In this present moment take a few deep breaths and give yourself the opportunity to look around. This is the moment and where you remind yourself that you are a completely capable person and have some amazingly brilliant work to do in the world. There are people out there that need to hear your story, there are people out there that need to hear your brilliance, and there are people out there that need you. Whatever past experiences you’ve had, whatever dark days you’ve had, and whatever your situation is in this current moment, you can stay this way forever, or you can get the fuck up and start creating a life that makes you smile and jump for joy in every moment.
UNDERSTAND YOU HAVE A PURPOSE: This is the moment when I usually get up and make “something” better. You’re alive to create. Take your control back and start small. What can you create or positively empower yourself with?
