I have been getting a few emails asking why I have not been blogging anymore. It’s not that I have stopped writing, or even that I have technically stopped blogging, it’s simply that podcasting has taken over my life. I woke up some morning in January and it was very clear to me that I had a massive urge to start a podcast. Why? I really don’t know for sure, but all I can tell you is that the new year brought me in a great deal of clarity, when it comes to the things that mean something more to me.
I am personally always telling people to follow their dreams and their passions, but one thing that I was not reminding myself to do was to bring it back to basics. I started looking at my life and the things that I really loved. I love reading… I love learning… I love spirituality… I love oracle cards… I love tangible objects and soul charms… I love listening to audiobooks or podcasts… etc. The list goes on and on and as I thought about these things, I suddenly had a huge ‘ah-ha’ moment.
Why am I not creating the things that I personally love? Why am I leaving them for other people to create?
It was a really strange moment where I realized that I had been working on things that necessarily were not the LOVES OF MY LIFE. I enjoyed them and totally resonated with them, but it made sense for me to be working on those things that I not only loved but that I also loved as a child. Light bulb.
I love reading, so I am going to write books (which I am already doing). I love learning, so I am going to create courses (which I already have). I love oracle cards, so why the hell haven’t I created my own deck? I love listening to audiobooks and podcasts, so why did I not have my own podcast?
As I thought back to my childhood, I was always taking my grandpas recorder and interviewing my family members or recording my own little info segments. I was constantly painting and creating greeting cards and little art projects. It made sense!
I feverishly got to work looking through the hundreds of hours of interview content that I had on my computer. I had interviewed over one hundred women over the last two years and it was just sitting there. One of my new year’s resolutions was to re-use and re-purpose content, so this made me super happy. I have to say though setting up a podcast was a bit harder than I had imagined. I thought that you could just create an iTunes account and upload your episodes. Nope. There was a lot more involved than that! But I did it anyway. I also got to work compiling imagery and art that I have created over the years, to see what would be usable for my own oracle card deck. Again, why re-invent the wheel; I have so much art already and I want these cards to be everything that is a part of my life. {Listen to the Wild and Creative Gathering Podcast HERE.}
So as I have brought it back to basics these days, my workload has not gone down, but it feels a lot more aligned and simple. I am doing the things that make the most sense to me. I have to say that keeping it simple and bringing it back to basics feels really good. Call it spring cleaning, or call it re-alignment, it’s a great feeling.
So now it’s time to ask yourself what YOU currently love about life? Do you love jewelry? Maybe make your own? Do you love tea? Maybe create your own? Do you love watching plays? Maybe write a play? Do you love gardening and photography? Maybe create a photography book on gardening? It’s actually a lot more simple than you think. Think about how can you simplify your entrepreneurial efforts and have them make more sense to you. Think about how you can you connect with the things that you once loved to do when you were little?
